The Punkrocker’s Guide to Using Legal Leverage: How to Use IP Law and the Constitution to Challenge the Establishment.

Artists, creatives, and disruptors push culture forward by challenging the status quo, but they’re also highly exploited by large corporations, and their challenges are often met with legal threats. Artists are also often arrested and charged with crimes, whether due to activism or their lifestyle. Defending your creative integrity while fighting corporate exploitation and legal overreach requires intentional, proactive strategy. This workshop will delve into high-level strategies for artists to protect their art, brand, authenticity and integrity, while raising hell.
Whether you are an artist yourself or a law student interested in IP, start here.

Speaker:

Rocky McKay didn’t wait long to start doing things his way. He changed his name at age 6, and not much has changed since. A natural performer with an early passion for art and music, Rocky has never been comfortable with the status quo. That restless energy led him to study film, music, psychology, and anthropology, ultimately earning a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. He graduated Cum Laude (be cool) from Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. In law school, Rocky found his two callings: criminal defense and IP law. He served on the executive board of the Sports and Entertainment Law Journal and as president of Law Students for the Arts. After graduating, he honed his litigation and intellectual property skills at Lewis Roca before founding his own firm, bringing those same skills to the people. https://www.linkedin.com/in/joseph-mckay-857774208/
